They say that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. Easier said than done, right? Watch people inside a book store or library and you’ll see how people are drawn to certain books because of its book cover. Book publishers also give a lot of importance to book covers and are always looking for talented graphic designers and illustrators to create eye-catching, unique book covers that evoke curiosity in the reader.
At Hippocampus, we are keen observers of book covers and can spend hours looking through different styles of illustrations included in books. Naturally, our decision to have a Book Cover Design Contest for students stems from our realization that it takes immense creativity and intelligence to come up with book covers that give readers a quick glimpse into what a book is about.
Encourage students in your school to be as imaginative as possible and come up with a fantastic book cover for the thoughtful story written by Sneha Caroline, who is part of the Hippocampus team. The student who wins the Book Cover Design Competition will win books worth Rs 15,000 for his/her school and will receive a copy of the book – with his/her book cover – published by Hippocampus. Incidentally, four of the best illustrators in the country – namely Archana Sreenivasan, Rajiv Eipe, Priya Kuriyan and Kavita Singh Kale – who have created amazing children’s book covers are part of Hippocampus’ Special Experiences in select cities and towns.
